„It‘s the most wonderful time of the year…“ and no, We are not talking about christmas. We are talking about meeting all our wonderful new students of the winter intake 2026/2027 during our welcome day event!
With 28 new CompEng students and 30 new SubSurf students present, this year‘s welcome day was very well attended. Once all new student were able to find a chair, the general coordinator of both programs, Dipl.-Ing. Jörg Sahlmen welcomed everyone to Bochum and the Ruhr-Universität. What followed was a brief introduction to Germany, Bochum and the Ruhr-Universität by the members of the support team, a more specific introduction to studying at the Ruhr-Universität by Dipl.-Ing. Jörg Sahlmen, an informative welcome by Dr. Phil. Julia Salzinger who is responsible for our German classes, and a warm introduction by the student council.
After a short break to grab some drinks, snacks and socialize, the group that was at this point still mixed with both, CompEng students and SubSurf students together, then split into two halfs, respective to their course of study. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Johanna Waimann, the course representative, greeted the new CompEng batch, and presented them with all the important details our new students needed to know about the Computational Engineering program. After that Prof. Helen Bartsch, Dr. Poria Saberi, MSc. Thuc Pham Phu and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Waimann introduced themselves and presented some of the classes the freshmen students will take starting the following week.
The day ended with more time to sozialize, snack and drink and of course being able to ask all questions that were still left. It was a wonderful event that everyone seemed to appreciate a lot. Now all that is left to say is: Welcome to Bochum!!!
