The interests of the student body are represented centrally by the General Students' Committee (AStA). However, given the numerous departments, students' interests are also represented by their own subjects in the form of student representatives (in German: Fachschaftsrat). In many cases, the Fachschaftsrat is abbreviated as "Fachschaft". This council consists of honorary students of a department who are elected during an official general assembly.
The tasks of the student representatives can be very varied: They delegate student representatives to the faculty committees, serve as contact persons for all students of the subject, help with questions and problems and facilitate the start of studies for freshmen by advising and organizing or supporting freshmen-events.

‼Important - Student Council Vote‼
Dear fellow students,
the student council is announcing a plenary meeting (Fachschaftsvollversammlung, FSVV) for the 17th of May, 7:30 pm, at KommRaum (IC 03-173), with the main topic being a vote for the student council.
If you are wondering why we're doing this: there is a specific amount of students legally required for a functioning student council. As some of us are already writing their thesis, we want to make sure no one is under too much pressure and we can keep the student council fully functional at the same time - there are so many great events planned for this semester!
