On Friday, the 25th November 2022, this year’s official graduation ceremony of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering took place. After two years, the ceremony could take place in the Audimax, Ruhr-University’s biggest lecture hall, again this year. Graduates from Computational Engineering, Structural Engineering and Infrastructure and Environment celebrated the successful completion of their studies. Furthermore, particularly outstanding degrees and achievements from graduates were awarded.

The evening was hosted by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Markus Knobloch, Dean of the Faculty, and CompEng student Lisa Freiin von Rössing.

There were several CompEng highlights during the evening. One of them was the honouring of our graduates Ali Mjalled and Soroush Motahari, who received the Niemann Prize 2022 for their achievement of being the fastest students of the academic year 2021. Also, CompEng graduate Inri Staka received the Computation in Engineering & Digitisation Faculty Prize which was founded by Prof. Dietrich Hartmann. It honours the best Master thesis in the field of building informatics and was awarded by Prorector Prof. Dr. techn. Günther Meschke for the first time. Further, the nine very first CompEng graduates from 2002 were honoured. They travelled from Serbia and North Macedonia especially for this occasion.

The programme is celebrating its 22th anniversary this year with the first graduates of the course, so Prof. Dr. Klaus Hackl and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Rüdiger Höffer also offered the audience insights into the beginnings of the programme.
The evening was rounded off with musical accompaniment by the Sarah Mesenbrock Trio and Clapsparrow, the dancing performance of RUBy, the robot dog of the Department of Computing in Engineering and the closing reception with DJ entertainment in the coffee bar of the RUB.

We congratulate all graduates. Thank you for being part of the CompEng family. We wish you all the best for your future career and hope you will keep us and Bochum in good memory!
