As the highlight of this year's Welcome Week we visited the Bochumer Ruhrstadion to watch the match of VfL Bochum against 1. FC Nürnberg on Monday, 4th November.

We met at the city hall in the city center and walked up the hill to the Vonovia stadium. The cold couldn’t bend the mood and we used the walk to get in the spirit: The student council kindly provided some beverages and along with many other VfL fans we arrived at the bustling stadium.

After we found our seats, Herbert Grönemeyer’s song “Bochum” started playing as it is VfL tradition. It was a thrilling game, the second league team VfL Bochum scored the first home win of the season (3:1). The CompEngs together with the rest of the stadium, cheered the team on. Until the break, VfL had taken a comfortable lead. Danilo Soares (9’), Simon Lorenz (40’) and Manuel Wintzheimer (45’) secured the victory for the host. Asger Sörensen (63’) scored for 1. FC Nürnberg.

The good-humoured CompEng students as well as the impressive atmosphere made for a successful excursion. Thanks for everyone who participated. We had a really good time!

A special shout out to the RUB Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering Sciences who helped to realize this event with their financial support.
