CompEng Excursion 2023 to Berlin

2023-04-25

Berlin Wall Group Picture

After the annual CompEng trip had to be cancelled in recent years, we are pleased to announce that we're going to Berlin from 9 - 11 June 2023. Interested students can register until 3 May 2023.

Berlin is not only the political centre of Germany, but with its 3.6 million citizens and 892 km2 the city with the highest population as well as the largest city of Germany. Berlin's rich historical heritage is reflected in every stone you stumble across as you stroll through the streets. Historic buildings stand next to modern architecture, and there is even a new castle right in the city centre, hidden behind an old façade. After World War II and throughout the cold war period, Berlin has been a separated city, which lead to the wall between the two German countries, the Federal Republic of Germany, and the German Democratic Republic (GDR). Since reunification in 1990, Germany has been reunited, or as former Chancellor Willy Brandt once said: “Now what belongs together is growing together!” Still, 25 years later, you cannot make a footstep without stepping on the German/German history.
