Congratulations to Mohammadreza Saghazadeh, Gourav Rooj, Sourav Rooj, Veronika Glazkova and Najid Tisekar!

The National Scholarship Program (Deutschlandstipendium) is awarded to students who show outstanding academic achievements and are involved in social activities. It is made possible by companies, institutions and individuals. Funds from the national and NRW governments further complement the scholarship sums. They are intended to be a contribution to students' living costs and ideally, they should enable them to concentrate on their studies rather than worrying about financial issues. Thus, they considerably help to improve students' study conditions.

We are happy to announce that this year five CompEng students were chosen as scholarship holders: Mohammadreza Saghazadeh, Gourav Rooj, Sourav Rooj, Veronika Glazkova and Najid Tisekar are funded by Ingenieursozietät Schürmann – Kindmann und Partner GbR, Prof. em. Dr.-Ing. Rolf Kindmann and Ruth und Gerd Massenberg-Stiftung.

The candidates have already proven themselves to be academically excellent prior to receiving the scholarship by being selected for the Master's programme. They shared their reasons for choosing CompEng at RUB with us. Mohammadreza Saghazadeh and Najid Tisekar emphasize the unique blend and interdisciplinary approach offered in the programme, that convinced them in choosing to apply: “This diverse curriculum means that I have the flexibility to choose and specialize in a wide range of engineering topics based on my interests. It gives me the freedom to decide which direction I want my future career to take, making it a versatile foundation for any engineering path.” (Mohammadreza Saghazadeh) “I believe [the programme] very well develops students to cater to the current technological and industrial advances and their demands aptly.” (Najid Tisekar) For Veronika Glazkova, her motives can be explained succinctly: “To be honest, I believe that the curriculum of this programme is the key to my future." Their choice was affirmed by their academic success and eventually them receiving the scholarship.

Not only do our scholarship holders stand out through their remarkable academic performance but furthermore due to their voluntary commitment. As a member of the CompEng student council, Veronika Glazkova represents the students as well as the programme towards professors, applicants and other faculties, showing a lot of professionalism and determination fulfilling this position. The work means a lot to her: “I broadened the range of activities I can do, improved my organisational skills, found ways how to work in a team and built strong communication skills.”

The candidates learnt about the scholarship through the RUB website, information shared by the International Office as well as through fellow students. “[W]ith a thorough research, I ascertained I would fit the bill in a good sense for the […]  Deutschlandstipendium and hence I gave it a shot.” (Najid Tisekar) For Sourav Rooj, the scholarship represents not only financial support: “[it] also helps you meet, share ideas and learn from your sponsors which I believe is really great.” We are glad our students get the chance to receive financial support through this scholarship programme, enabling them to improve their academic performance, as well as gaining valuable opportunity for personal and academic growth.

After hearing about the scholarship, the scholarship holders initially shared the good news with their loved ones: “The first person I shared this wonderful news with was my lovely family, as they have been a significant pillar of support throughout my academic journey. It was a deeply gratifying moment, feeling as though all the hard work and dedication I had poured into my studies was being recognized.” (Mohammadreza Saghazadeh) “As always, it was my Mother. She has always been the first person to get to know first about everything that I have achieved yet in life.” (Sourav Rooj) “The first person I shared this news with is also the same person who has always inspired me to keep moving forward despite all the difficulties and obstacles in life and also taught me to be a responsible and compassionate individual and that person is none other than my MOTHER. She is also the one who used to look after my studies while growing up and also taught me to be sincere and committed towards each and every task I undertake. So, a major chunk of whoever I am today is all because of her and I can never express in words how grateful I am to her for all the sacrifices she has made for me and all the values she has inculcated in me. (Gourav Rooj).

For their studies as well as their future, the candidates show a lot of ambition which has certainly also led to the award of scholarship in the end: “[A]fter completing my Master's thesis, I plan to pursue my PhD, if possible from RUB itself, as this institution has highly motivated me to look into new avenues of engineering which I never thought of walking on before. As such I believe that pursuing PhD will further ignite my interest in newer engineering concepts and enable me to broaden my spectrum of knowledge as an engineering student and researcher which in turn will also enable me to contribute to the welfare of the society at large.” (Gourav Rooj) “Right now, I’m in the final phase of my Master’s programme and I can say that RUB has helped me not only gain a lot of knowledge but also helped polish what I already knew. I’ll always be indebted to my professors and everyone else who accompanied me during my adventure at RUB. Also, the fact the place I lived in (Bochum) was surrounded by lovely and warm-hearted people, always made me feel so at home. […] After my Master’s, I want to gain some practical experience in the industry which I believe will not only enable me to have the satisfaction of applying the skills I learned so far but also will help me understand the direction the industry is going in at this point of time. The knowledge of the latter will help me a great deal in the future in deciding the possible areas I can do my Doctorate in.” (Sourav Rooj)

We wish the scholarship holders all the best for their future. We are proud to have you on board!

Many thanks to the RUB Rectorate and the RUB Department of PR and Communication/ Fundraising and Alumni for making this scholarship available to the students.
