The CompEng Coordination Office is closed from 23 December 2022 to 08 January 2023.
We wish you a wonderful and relaxing holiday season.
See you all in 2023!
The online application has started. Prospective students can find the most important information about the application for the Master's programme in Computational Engineering here.
Koussay Daadouch completed his Computational Engineering Master's degree this year. With his extraordinary academic performance, he was honoured as the best graduate of the RUB during this academic year.
On Friday, the 25th November 2022, this year’s official graduation ceremony of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering took place. After two years, the ceremony could take place in the Audimax, Ruhr-University’s biggest lecture hall, again this year. Graduates from Computational Engineering, Structural Engineering and Infrastructure and Environment celebrated the successful completion of their studies. Furthermore, particularly outstanding degrees and achievements from graduates were awarded.
At the beginning of the winter semester, the CompEng students traditionally elect their new representatives. During an online plenary meeting the old student council was released and presented their work as well as introduced the tasks of the student council. The prospect candidates introduced themselves with a short campaign speech and the election took place. After counting the votes, the new student council was set.
Registration for examinations of the Master's programme Computational Engineering for the winter semester 2022/2023 is possible in FlexNow from 15.11.2022 until 15.01.2023.
It has become a tradition that one of the first excursions with the new year students is to Movie Park Germany in Bottrop and to the German Mining Museum in Bochum. After both excursions could not take place in the last few years, the whole team was looking forward to them even more.
The whole CompEng team wishes the new students, whether already in Bochum or still in their home country, a good start to the winter semester 2022/23!
The history of the Ruhr region is closely linked to the history of labour, especially industrial labour. So it is not surprising that in Dortmund, the biggest city in the Ruhr region with its rich industrial history, a museum is dedicated entirely to the diverse aspects of working environments.
The Master's course Computational Engineering has been accredited by ASIIN since 2010. The latest quality seal was awarded to CompEng on 24 June 2022 after a quality review by the ASIIN Accreditation Commission.
Working alongside your studies, whether in a company or at university or doing an internship, is normal everyday life for most students. At the same time, it prepares them for their career after graduation. Starting your own business while studying is still the exception. Three (former) CompEng students, namely Tarik Sahin, Hakan Bayer, and Salih Enes Tiryaki, have taken this step. Together with Berk Hakbilen, they have started a project developing a smart bin that should lead to a start-up in the future.
After more than 10 years of successful cooperation, we are pleased to announce that a double-degree agreement for the Master's programme Computational Engineering was signed between the Vietnamese-German University (VGU) and the Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) on 15 March 2022.
Graduate Lu Trong Khiem Nguyen has been appointed Lecturer at the University of Glasgow. He has started his new position as Lecturer (with tenure, equivalent to a professorship at a German university) in Multiscale Materials on 5 January 2022. His research focuses on multiscale theories and related numerical methods to study the behaviour of heterogeneous materials and metamaterials in a dynamic regime.
Sandra Klinge, alumni of the Master Computational Engineering at RUB, was appointed to the professorship "Structural Mechanics and Structural Computation" (SMB www.smb.tu-berlin.de) at the Faculty of Transportation and Machine Systems at TU Berlin in July 2021. We from CompEng warmly congratulate her to her professorship. We have talked to Prof Dr.-Ing. habil. Klinge about her studies, her professorship, and her career.
